Biconcave shaped cells known as erythrocytes are small and supple cells

Biconcave shaped cells known as erythrocytes are small and supple cells .The flexible disk shape increases the red blood cells surface thus enhancing its ability to transport oxygen and carbon dioxide over the cell membrane more readily . It enables the cells to pass through tiny blood vessels to deliver oxygen to tissues and organs. Erythrocytes don’t have lots of organelles which allows more space in the cell body for Haemoglobin , which gives blood its characteristic red colour.
Smooth muscle cells are small long spindle shaped non striated cells with a single central placed nucleus. Large quantities of mitochondria are required to continuously supply ATP as this is needed to permit the contraction of muscles.
